WOODBRIDGE – Mayor John McCormac gave a local fitness studio a boost on Saturday as he cut the ribbon during a grand opening celebration downtown.

The mayor, along with about 30 well wishers, helped Pole 2 Pole Fitness celebrate at its new location at 353 Fulton St.

The event was “perhaps the most unusual” he’s attended, the mayor said. But he said anytime a new business opens downtown he welcomes them and pushes for their success.

Business owner Jennifer Hall offered a brief history of pole dancing for exercise, which she said dates back 800 years.

“Pole dancing classes have become a popular form of recreational and competitive sport,” Hall said.

Hall says her classes build core muscles, burn fat and help women become aerobically fit.
