PRESENTING the UPArmy!!
The UPA team is expanding with our new division of dedicated supporters named the UPArmy! What is UPArmy? It is a group of individuals selected by UPA to represent our brand and promote UPA to the world! These people have shown dedication, support and overall love for UPA. They will be given missions over our social media channels that will give you a chance to meet and interact with the UPArmy! So with that said, we would like to introduce our first #UPArmy member, Brian Wolf! Brian is originally from Colorado and now lives in Los Angeles. Brian started pole dancing in 2013 and can be seen strutting his stuff around town in his 8 inch heels! He was awarded a scholarship at The Choreography House and was recently name the Scholarship Student of the Year! He teaches around LA with his unique Boylesque sytle. Brian will be doing his first international tour this year, travelling to South Africa to teach workshops! He will also be competing in CPDC and Paragon Australia. But he is not just his look that makes him compelling. Brian graduate from UCLA with a degree in Sociology. Brains, booty and bitching attitude makes him perfect to join the UPArmy! “I am so freaking excited to join the UPArmy and spread sexiness around the world! We are going have lots of fun and I can’t wait to meet you all!’ Says Brian. Brian will be at Pole Expo this week where he will be given his first mission. If you’re going to Pole Expo, make sure you go snap a selfie with Brian and hashtag #UPArmy and #UnitedByPoleExpo to win some awesome UPA gear. Our second UPArmy member is S.T.Shimi AKA Shimarella AKA Black Orchid. She is a foxy brown performance artist who has been living and making work in San Antonio for two decades. Born and raised in Singapore, her performance work examines the intersections and contradictions of multiple identities in irreverent, provocative and visually intriguing ways. Some of her solo works include Lost in Translation, Southern Discomfort and On the Island, which was staged at the first National Asian American Theater Festival in 2007. She has created and collaborated on several original performance works over the years, including site-specific pieces that have been seen at several major local arts festivals, as well as stages around the country. Her eclectic dance background includes 15 years of training in American Cabaret-style bellydance, several years of training on aerial apparatuses such as tissu and pole, circus arts such as hoop and fire dance, and she is also a burlesque performer who has been on the local, regional and national stage. Shimi teaches and trains in pole at Soft Sensuous Moves, San Antonio, and has competed and placed in several pole competition in her Division (Masters), including Miss Sexy at Miss Texas Pole Star 2014. She loves being a part of the pole community, especially since social media has allowed for her to make personal connections with the artists and athletes that have inspired her. Shimi graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in theater and women’s studies. Welcome Brian and Shimi to the UPArmy!
