Pregnant Pole Performance, Masayo Okamoto, Osaka, Japan
When I saw Masayo Okamoto in June, I asked her if she was pregnant? She was surprised that I noticed, her stomach was barely showing! I asked Masayo, if she was going to take any ‘maternity leave’, to rest, and relax from her incredibly busy schedule.
Masayo: “I am planning to maintain my normal routine”.
Masayo’s scheduled activities: June – Aug. 2015, (second trimester). International Pole Competition Judge In April, Masayo was a Judge for the 2015 HK China Pole Championship, in Hong Kong. Since then, she has traveled to: Tokyo (3x), Russia, Korea, *Beijing, London, Korea, & Hong Kong.
CEO & Founder: Japan Pole Sports Association.
Japan Pole Sports Association, organizes a Pole Camp every year for pole dancers in Japan. This summer the Japan Pole Summer Camp 2015, was held in Kouchi, Japan. Masayo, managed to find the time, to prepare & train for her August 8th, Pregnant Pole Performance, as well as organizing her Sweetpi-A Studio Showcase, ”Pole Aerial Collection”.
Pole Instructor: Studio Sweetpi-A Osaka, & International Workshops.
I asked Masayo, how she felt about being pregnant, while maintaining her busy Pole activities.
Masayo: “For athletes like me, the physical and emotional changes associated with pregnancy is terrifying. I spoke with professional people in all fields, about how I can make a comeback to being a pole athlete, and what kind of training should I do after childbirth, postpartum follow-up, delivery care & so on. The research on this, is less well understood in Japan, I could not get any specific information. So I think, making a comeback to being a pole athlete after pregnancy will be a big challenge for me in my life. Through my experience, I hope I will be able to provide support for pregnant female athletes in Japan.”
Did you consult with your doctor for any special advice?
Masayo: “I always seek advice from my doctor. It is very important to keep my baby in good health too. With the advice of my doctor, I plan to go and judge many competitions overseas, up to the 8th month of pregnancy.”
