Poling for two

2018 was a whirlwind! I was getting over a broken collarbone and a bout of being sick when my husband and I found out the most amazing new of our lives. The morning of August 4th, I woke up feeling pretty terrible, but was determined to cheer on my students at PSO Southwest. After a quick trip home for lunch and a pregnancy test, I found out I was pregnant with who would be my little boy. It was incredibly difficult to keep my mouth shut at PSO that day! As the pregnancy went on, teaching became more and more difficult. Morning sickness, dizziness, weakness, and the eventual “big ol’ belly” made even my beginner class a challenge. But I was determined to stay in shape and keep going. I poled all the way up to 35 weeks and even performed my last burlesque show at 34 weeks. After my little boy arrived, my body was foreign to me. My abs felt like mashed potatoes, and my stamina was shot. Even a basic fireman spin was a challenge. But, despite being told I wouldn’t be able to pole for months and how I’d never have time to work out, I made it work through babywearing. (After being cleared by my OB.) Squats, bicep curls, and leg raises are some of the possibilities while wearing your baby, and my little boy personally loves it! I’m incredibly thankful for the support I’ve received from my husband, friends, and pole studio as I slowly learn what my new “normal” is.
Poling has been an important part of my life, and I’m so happy I’ve been able to continue my journey.
