Photographer’s Pole Dancing Photo is Declined for Art Show

Belinda Mason, an Australian photographer, was recently commissioned by Liverpool Arts Centre for an art exhibition about women in sports. Mason’s 8 piece collection includes a picture of a pole dancer in a provocative costume and the photograph was declined to be shown at the exhibition. Zahra Stardust, an Australian pole dancer, was the subject of the photograph and told the Sydney Morning Herald, “extremely disappointing and a sad reflection of prejudice, narrow-mindedness and stigma”. The photo above is not the photo declined. To see the photo the art centre would not use, click on the photo above. Interestingly enough, Stardust ran for Brendan Nelson’s Australian House of Representatives seat in 2009 and is a former Human Rights Lawyer.
