Recently crowned Australian Pole Champion, Andrea Ryff, is one of the Australian Oxygen Women’s Fitness Magazine’s Top 10 cover model finalists for 2014. As if that wasn’t enough, Andrea has also just been identified as an X-Pole Protégé Ambassador. What a year for this feisty and inspiring lady! It was while attending Pole Expo in Las Vegas that Andrea was notified by email that she had been selected as one of 10 female sports models for the covered Cover Model Competition. “I was checking my emails in my hotel room, and received this email from Oxygen Magazine. I was expecting it to thank me for my entry and better luck next time basically, but in fact it was notifying me that I was a finalist, and due at a photo shoot in their studios, literally the day I was meant to land on the Gold Coast from LA,” Andrea recalls. “I was sharing a room with my friend and fellow studio owner, Lynn, and asked her to double check the email because I was sure I had read it incorrectly. After we had confirmed it was indeed what I thought it was, then came the stress of firstly, staying in good shape and not getting sick or injured during Pole Expo for the shoot, and secondly, hoping like mad that my flight would not be delayed and I would miss the whole thing!”

In fact, Andrea only discovered pole when she was 36. She had been a gymnast when younger and really enjoyed weight lifting as an adult, so pole seemed like the perfect combination of the two. However, it was during her four day intensive training program with Zoraya and Nick Judd that Andrea started to really set some goals for herself in the industry. “Ultimately it was Zoraya who told me I had what it took to take on pole as a career and compete. From there everything changed,” Andrea admits. Since her inspiring recent win at Australian Pole Championships, Andrea got through as a Professional finalist in Australian Pole Fitness Championships 2013, Professional finalist Australian Pole Championships 2013, Professional finalist Pole Candy 2014, Professional finalist NSW Pole Championships 2014, Professional 1st Runner Up, and Miss Pole Dance NSW 2014. It was the adrenaline rush that got Andrea addicted to pole – every time she mastered a new trick, she would get a rush like no other sport she has ever participated in before. Andrea decided to enter the magazine competition because a personal training client of hers had entered the previous year, and suggested Andrea give it a go herself. Andrea felt was a perfect goal for the year she turned 40 years old. Being announced as a finalist in the Top 10 among 300 applicants from around Australia was an enormous achievement for Andrea, and gave her the opportunity to bring pole dance fitness to the awareness of mainstream media. The purpose of the competition is to identify the woman who personifies what it means to be an Oxygen Cover Girl – a fresh, fit and natural look, with a positive, dedicated and genuine attitude to match; the complete package of body, mind and spirit. The winner not only receives a cover shoot of the next issue of Oxygen, but over $23,000 in cash and prizes on offer as part of this year’s competition!

“I live by the 80/20 rule mainly, especially for my eating habits, so as long as 80% of what I eat is healthy, then the occasional treat is nothing to stress about,” she shared. “Also, finding the activity that you are passionate about and absolutely drives you to get out of bed is key to staying in shape, because then it doesn’t even feel like work. For me, obviously, that’s pole.” Literally, two weeks after her inspiring and enjoyable photo shoot with the other Oxygen finalists, and it was time for Andrea to get back on a plane, and this time to contend for the Australian Pole Championships crown on And much to Andrea’s disbelief (but no one else’s), Andrea won first place in the Professional Division. The X-Pole announcement rounded off an absolutely incredible year for Andrea – the results of her discipline and hard work. We cannot wait to see what is in story for this inspiring lady, who also owns Achieve Physique in Sydney.
