When it comes to eating healthy foods, it’s so much easier to do when your pantry and freezer are well stocked with versatile staples. Here are my top 22 (apparenently I couldn’t limit myself to a good round number like 20, haha), in no particular order.

  1. Various beans (chickpeas, black, canellini, pinto are my favorites)
  2. Various seeds (raw sunflower, raw pumpkin, flax
  3. Farro
  4. Extra virgin olive oil
  5. Fresh garlic
  6. A selection of vinegars (sherry, red wine, balsamic, white balsamic, rice, apple cider)
  7. Homemade stock
  8. Tomatoes, whole or diced (canned or frozen)
  9. Tomato paste
  10. Mustard
  11. Lentils
  12. Dried fruit (cranberries, raisins)
  13. Nut butter of your choice
  14. Capers
  15. Canned tuna in olive oil
  16. Brown rice
  17. Greens (spinach, kale, assorted lettuces)
  18. Carrots
  19. Onions
  20. Fresh ginger (it freezes really well and grates so easily when frozen!)
  21. Shallots
  22. Various fresh fruits (berries, stone fruits, any and all!  They’re fantastic in salads, with yogurt or granola, or just on their own as a little pick-me-up)
