Have you seen the fantastically funny, cheeky and outrageously accurate pole Christmas parody video, recently created and shared by our famous pole friends in Sydney, Australia? If not, it’s completely worth the viewing… at least twice so you can make sure you catch (and giggle at) all the pole-ebrities mentioned. Christmas and the holiday season provides an opportunity for all of us to look back and reflect on the year that has passed. We usually are allowed days off from work, as well as all the other activities we busy ourselves with during the year. This gives us the time to rest, recharge our batteries, and be thankful for all the achievements, experiences and inspiring people the year brought with it. Chilli Rox is a prominent Sydney pole performer and instructor, and official annual host of Miss Pole Dance Australia for 9 years running (together with the ever-glamorous non-poling diva Maxi Shield),. She was keen to help pole dancers around the World celebrate 2014, and the festive season, with something really special. Chilli3 “It was just after MPD in November, and my workload had slowed down considerably. I had time to myself and started to think about all the ups and downs I’ve had this year, and how much I just wanted to say thank you to my amazing students who really have inspired me, made me laugh and worked so hard. I thought a Christmas carol could be a fun way to make them smile,” she remembers. “ I called my mate Jedda and told her she was making a video with me, and then I called Shimmy and Maddie and asked them if they would like to be apart of it too. Amber Ray, Daisy, Bailey Hart and Stacey also agreed immediately. Then I started to think about all the awesome comps, awesome pole dancers, and awesome pole sponsors, eg Volare Pole and Aerial Arts Magazine, Australia Pole Dancers Magazine, Bad Kitty , House of Moira. Next to be included were the sensational pole stars from overseas who have toured, inspired me, taught me and shared their passion.” Chilli wrote all the lyrics to the tune of old Christmas favourite, Santa Baby, including a witty rap verse, especially for Jedda to perform. Bailey Hart sang the verses incredibly in tune and with an unexpected talent. The video was filmed at Amber Ray’s studio, Haus of Pole, in the space of just three hours. This was not the first time Chilli has made a video of this sort. She has also released a cover song of A whole lotta love and made a film clip featuring all the Bobbis instructors.:) “The international response for the video since it was shared on social media has been so incredible, and I am really pleased that we could make people smile at Christmas time. I am already planning sequels – so look out!” Chilli1 Chill Rox is a well-known face (and body!) on the Sydney pole scene, as a Bobbi’s instructor and the MC of 10-year-old competition, Miss Pole Dance Australia. She discovered pole way back in the day when there were no dedicated studios. She was put in contact with Vanessa Brecht and Bobbi, who began offering pole classes in a massage parlour. Chilli recalls there were just 2 poles, and classes were made up of 6 girls – half learned pole tricks while the other half stretched and vice versa. When the duo opened in a dedicated studio space in Castlereigh Street, Chilli learned pole both under her original instructor whom she was in admiration of, Candice Leigh, as well as the now internationally famous Jamilla De Ville, much to her delight. Then when Chilli reached an intermediate level as a student, Bobbi asked her to instruct – “the best day of my life” – and that was when pole became Chilli’s life. Since then, Chilli has performed at an enormous amount of high profile events, such as at The Big Day Out (with Cleo the Hurricane), as well as MTV’s The Lair, Eminem’s official after-party, and a number of other high profile corporate events. However, more recently hosting competitions and events has become the direction Chilli would like to move toward. Recent international and national competitions she has hosted, aside from her regular gig, Miss Pole Dance Australia, include Miss Pole Dance South East Asia, the Pole Games in Melbourne, and Miss Pole Dance in Singapore. Her hosting gigs allow her to travel Australia and the World, host workshops and bear witness to the incredible new talent our industry boasts. Chilli2 How many famous mentions can you count in the song? Here is a start to get you thinking….. Cleo the Hurricane, Marlo Fisken, Olga, Natasha Wang… and take it from there!   Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, from the Volare Pole and Aerial Arts Magazine team.
