Should Pole Fitness be banned in Universities? The answer for almost every avid pole dancer out there is no, but what about from the perspective of a non-poling student? To our delight, Gemma Parry, a current student and writer at Swansea University agrees. Parry reviews the Swansea University Student Union Board’s decision to ban pole dancing classes from taking place on the University campus. Parry writes on the Huffington Post Blog, “For me, the arguments of the Trustee Board against pole fitness seem to be based on prejudice and fear. I don’t pole dance personally so maybe I’m not the best person to speculate, but I think the board seriously need to consider what pole dancing really is and how empowering a movement it actually is to women. It is their right to choose whether they want to take part in pole fitness or not and by banning the society at Swansea, a female student is unable to make that choice and that, my friends, is not empowerment.” Click here to read more. In other news related to this topic, the Pole Dance Community (PDC) has sent a letter to the board with three options, “justify their position, reverse their decision, or resign en masse” according to the The Independent Online. Sam Remmer, founder of the PDC has “hinted at legal action” and the pole dance club is working hard to get as much attention as possible to help sway the minds of the Swansea board.
